Corobici River Rafting Caldera

(6 hours) This rafting adventure is ideal for the nottooadventurous. After a safety briefing by the certified river guide, you will board the rubber rafts and paddle down the class II river for 2 hours. Enjoy the rich lush tropical jungle which is inhabited by numerous species of birds and animals, as you float down the river. Lunch is provided in a local restaurant. River rafting can be an adventure, so expect to get wet.

San Jose City Tour

(9 hours) The tour starts as you travel through the central valley with its rich farmland, rolling green hills and lush mountain forests. The first stop is in the charming, rustic village of Palmares. Next, is the capital city of San Jose. You will find it surprisingly urbane as you wind your way through this bustling metropolis and visit the magnificent National Theater. Discover the cultural heritage at the National Museum of PreColumbian art. The exhibit features gold, jade, stone and ceramic pieces. Our sightseeing will also take you past several of the city's parks and monuments. Heading into the mountains, you visit one of the most fascinating structures in Costa Rica, Greccis' all metal church. The last stop, before returning to the ship is the village of Sarchi. Sarchi is home to Costa Rica's tradition of the handpainted oxcart. Here you will find souvenirs in abundance. Lunch will be served at one of the hotels, which is included in the tour.

Poas Volcano and Cloud Forest

(9 hours) The national park is one of the most beautiful places in the central valley of Costa Rica where you will find Poas Volcano. The active crater is among the world's largest, measuring a mile across. Stand on the rim of the crater and look down nearly 1000' to the active fumaroles and hot water lake. This volcano's periodic geyser-like eruptions of steam and water have earned Poas the distinction of the largest geyser in the world. The picturesque towns surrounding the valley have some of the world's most varied flora and home to some of the best sugar cane, coffee, and strawberry plantations in the country. After your tour of the park, a 1 1/2 hour stop will be made for lunch and shopping at the village of Sarchi. There you can find a large variety of wood crafts, leather goods and souvenirs.

Picturesque Sarchi

(5 hours) Located 40 miles from the Port of Caldera, Sarchi is the home of Costa Rica's symbol of a simple, yet colorful lifestyle, the handpainted oxcart. Established over a century ago, the tradition lives on in this mountain village which is situated in the center of sugar and coffee plantations. There is plenty of time to shop for wood crafts, leather goods and souvenirs. Before returning to the ship, enjoy a brief stop in the town of Grecia to admire the only all metal church in Latin America.

Driving along picturesque roads with mountain greenery and tropical fruit plantations, you will arrive at the colonialstyle province of Heredia, home to Britt Coffee, where you will have a fun and informative look at the origins of the drink and its evolution into one of the worlds most important industries. At Pura Vida, a delightful Costa Rican ranch, you will be treated to an exquisite native lunch amidst beautifully landscaped gardens. Before returning to the ship, there will also be time to shop for handicrafts and souvenirs.
