and St. Pierre Tour

(3 1/2 hours) Leaving the port, you'll first pass through FortdeFrance, the very
French capital of the island. The tour continues up the coast past fishing villages,
including one where Columbus landed. Next is St. Pierre and the ruins of the city that was
destroyed when Mt. Pelee erupted in 1906. From here, the tour heads into the mountains,
through the tropical rain forest and back to FortdeFrance where you may return to the ship
or opt to debark in town for shopping (return transportation on your own).
Calypso Party Tour

(3 hours) Board the Calypso, a 70' catamaran for a scenic cruise. Through the
underwater viewers, you will see a variety of coral, sponges and tropical fish.
Proceeding into the picturesque cove of Anse A'lan, you may choose to swim or just laze in
the sun. Leaving the beach, the Calypso will thread her way past the many yachts anchored
from all over the world and the hotel resorts with their topless beaches. On the return,
dance to the live calypso music or just relax and enjoy the scenery.
Beach and Snorkel Adventure

(3 hours) En route to a secluded fishing village, the P'Ti Punch, a specially built
snorkel boat will cruise across the bay to a beautiful beach where you can enjoy a quiet
swim or snorkel the unspoiled coral reefs with the expert divers. Experienced snorkelers
may dive in the famous Black Bat Cave. On the return, be on the lookout for dolphin that
swim alongside the P'Ti Punch. |
Botanical
Gardens of Martinique
Price per person: $44.00
(2 hours) Passing through the city of FortdeFrance, the first stop is the Church of
Balata, followed by the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Here you will see the local fruits
and vegetables, a Creole house with a Creole doll collection and a small banzai
collection. Return via a small mountain road back to the ship. Fort-de-France Walking Tour
Price per person: $27.00
(1 ½ hours) This tour is for those who enjoy walking and are keen on culture,
botany, history and shopping. A bus will take you to downtown Fort-de-France where your
walking journey begins. You will see the Saint Louis Fort and Cathedral, the War Memorial,
the Schoelcher Library, which was transported from France brick by brick in 1893, Maison
Bougenot, a colonial style-house and the picturesque Fruit and Vegetable Market. A final
stop will be made at Roger Albert, a duty-free perfume shop. The bus will then return you
back to the ship or you may opt to stay in town return transportation at your own expense.
St. Pierre and Butterfly Farm
Tour
Price per person: $60.00
(3 ½ hours) Leaving the port, you will first pass through Fort-de-France, the
capital of Martinique with its narrow streets and wrought iron balconies. You will see the
Balata Church, a replica of the Sacred Heart Basilica of Montmartre in Paris, on the way
to the ruins of the city of St. Pierre, where in 1906 Mt. Pelee erupted, killing 30,000
people in 10 seconds. Founded in 1643, the Butterfly Farm is probably the oldest
plantation in Martinique where a multitude of butterflies flutter around in a greenhouse
built in an environment favorable to their well-being. On the return, you will pass by
coastal fishing villages, including Carbet, where Christopher Columbus landed in 1502 and
where the famous painter Paul Gauguin lived in 1887. |
