My husband and I spent our first wedding anniversary in St. Lucia at the Sandals Halcyon. This is the smallest of the three Sandals properties in St. Lucia but does not lack in any of the services. It is a very intimate property which gives you the impression that you are family. The staff was extremely friendly and most knew our names within a day or two of our arrival. Sandals Halcyon only has 170 rooms with 5 room categories ranging from garden view to beachfront concierge rooms.
Sandals is an adults and couples only resort. A majority of guests were celebrating their honeymoon or anniversary. Sandals is an ultra all-inclusive resort that includes all meals, all drinks and all activities, even scuba diving and water skiing unlike other all-inclusive properties. Another nice feature of Sandals is that all guests have exchange privileges with the other Sandals resorts on the island. In St. Lucia this means that you have a choice of 14 different restaurants, three beaches and lots of pools.
While we were in St. Lucia, we had a chance to visit the other two properties, which are very different from Sandals Halcyon. Sandals Halcyon is located in between the other two properties, only about a 15 minute drive to either hotel. The Sandals Golf and Spa Resort is the largest of the three hotels. It features a 9 hole golf course in which green fees are complimentary to all Sandals guests. It has 328 rooms with 12 room categories ranging from garden view to a sunset ocean bluff one bedroom suite with private plunge pool. There is also a full service European spa that offers a wide variety of treatments at an additional cost.
The Sandals Grande St. Lucian is the newest Sandals hotel which just opened in September 2002. It’s a perfect combination of the other two resorts. It has 284 rooms with 8 categories ranging from deluxe lagoon pool view to presidential ocean view suite. This property also features a unique new room category, lagoon swim-up rooms, with direct pool access to the lagoon pool. The resort is located on a causeway between Pigeon Island and Rodney Bay. So it has the feel of being more isolated than the other two resorts. It also has a full service European spa offering treatments at an additional cost.
All of the resorts have nightly entertainment and theme nights including a Pirate, Casino and Lovers night. They each have a piano bar and disco too. The Sandals staff encourages everyone to get involved with the daily activities but you don’t feel like you have to. So if you are planning a Caribbean getaway soon, Sandals is a great option. If St. Lucia is not on your list to visit, they offer properties in Jamaica, Bahamas and Antigua. Also for families, the Sandals company has a family friendly option, Beaches. Their family properties are located in Jamaica and Turks and Caicos.
